SSHS wins 2019 CT

This year’s 2019 City Tournaments took place Wednesday, January 16, 2019, Thursday, January 17, 2019, and Friday, January 18, 2019.

This is a big change from years past. Normally these games would take place on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday; however, not this year Jon Davis, a wrestling coach, was already booked at the B.O.S. center for January 19 and 20 for an Illinois kids wrestling event.

“I do not like how the city dates were changed. During the week, we have school,”  stated Haley McClanahan (12).

On Wednesday, Springfield High School played Sacred Heart-Griffin at 6 p.m. with a score of 52 to 45 with a win from Springfield, Lanphier High School, and Southeast High School played at 8 p.m. with a score of 59 to 37 with a win from Southeast.

There was a scary moment during LHS’ game. Southeast’s center Herb McMath (12)  stepped off the side of the court to go after the ball. It was later learned that Herb dislocated his knee. The injury will keep him on the bench for about six weeks.

On Thursday, LHS and SHG played at 6 p.m with a score of 69 to 65 with a win from SSHS. Springfield and Southeast played at 8 p.m with a score 55 to 40 with a win from Southeast. On the Friday night games, LHS and Springfield played at 6 p.m. with a score of 38 to 36 with a win from Lanphier. SHG and Southeast followed right after playing at 8 p.m with a score of 84 to 50 with a win from SSHS.

“My favorite part of city is watching basketball and all the student sections,” stated Addison Miller (12).

The girls city tournament games were as follows:

Wednesday, January 23, LHS + SHG at 6 p.m. 72 to 41 with a win from SHG, SSHS + SHS at 7:30 p.m. 55 to 11 with a win from SHS

Thursday, January 24, SHG + SSHS at 6 p.m. 26 to 61 with a win from SHG, LHS + SHS at 7:30 p.m. 48 to 57 with a win from SHS

Saturday, January 26,  SSHS +LHS at 5 p.m. 33 to 58 with a win from LHS, SHG + SHS at 6:30 p.m. 52 to 67 with a win from SHS
