Festival of Trees

Since 1989, Springfield Memorial Medical Center has raised money for different projects with the annual Festival of Trees. The event has raised more than $4.9 million over the past 29 years and continues to bring in about 35,000 people annually.

Every year, hundreds of designers decorate the Orr building at the Illinois State Fairgrounds for Christmas. This years theme was “Holidays Through Our History” and “ Celebrating Illinois’ Bicentennial” Festival of Trees also presents Santa Claus, whom you, your friends, and family may meet and take a picture with, or you can ride the Candy Cane Express Train. You could even decorate homemade gingerbread cookies.

Lanphier High Schools’ choir even made an appearance at the Festival of Trees. They sang many Christmas songs including It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas, Silent Night, and Jingle Bells which was a favorite for Xander Jones (10) who sang with the choir on Thanksgiving Day.

Jingle Bells is definitely my favorite out of all the songs we sang, and we sang ten. It’s just jazzier and everyone likes to sing and dance.”

The Festival of Trees began on Saturday, November 17 and lasted for seven days until Sunday, November 25. Admission was $5 an adult, $3 for children 3-12 years old and admission was free for any under 3 years of age. The event provided a Senior Day on November 20 which allowed seniors 55 years old and older in for only $3.
