Christmas Food and Gift Ideas

Do you want to make great food for the holidays, but have no clue what to make that everyone will love? Well, if so, here are some ideas and tips for the holiday season. Also, here are some great ideas for gifts for your friends and family, or even the family pet!

If you do not know what to get someone for a Christmas gift, give them money so they can get to choose their own present. A gift card is another great idea. Give them one from Barnes And Noble, White Oaks Mall, or anywhere you think they will enjoy spending that card of cash. If you like your gifts to be thoughtful, then make them something homemade, like a card, knit or sew them something. You could even make something basic out of fabric like a blanket, if you do not know how to knit or sew. You can put two sheets of blanket fabric together cut 2-inch strips of the fabric around all four sides, then knot the strips together by twos. This makes an easy blanket, nice and warm!

Next topic is food. One thing that would be great and change things up is making it unique instead of a turkey or ham for the main dish, why not go for brown sugar garlic pork with carrots and potatoes? To make this deliciously easy meal, we start by preheating the oven to 375 degrees. Mix 1/4 cup canola oil, salt and pepper with sliced carrots and potatoes and put onto a sheet tray, then mix 1 tbsp canola oil, brown sugar, garlic and rub on pork loin. Next, roast the pork for 40-50 minutes, or until a meat thermometer registers at 150 degrees in the center of the roast. Roast the vegetables and leave them in to finish cooking while the pork rests outside the oven. Let the pork rest for 5-10 minutes. Then, finally, remove vegetables from oven and serve with the pork.

For a side dish, you can make mashed potatoes and chicken gravy. First, you peel about seven to eight potatoes and boil them for about 10-15 minutes or until softened. Then take them out of the boiling water, and put them into another pot, and start mashing the potatoes up. Add butter, stir mashed potatoes until they are ready.

Now to the gravy. First, melt butter in a saucepan on medium high heat. Next, add the flour until it becomes a paste and slightly turns brown. Then, slowly incorporate the chicken broth with a whisk. Whisk constantly until it thickens. Once thickened, add the chicken drippings and serve hot.

For dessert, how about apple pie? First, you have to peel and cut five to six red apples, then add butter ¼ tsp of butter into a skillet. Let it melt, then add the apples. Add ¼ tsp of butter and some cinnamon into a bowl. Mix, then add to the apples and cook until tender. Roll out a pie dough on a pie pan. Add the apples on top, then roll out the second pie dough on top. Next cut four slits on the pie dough, then put the pie in the oven for about 20-30 mins or until crisp.   Let the pie cool down and enjoy!

Merry Christmas! Fill up your rooms with gifts, and fill your stomachs with delicious food! Happy Holidays, and a Happy New Year!
