For seven years Ms. Chelsey Ziebler’s Foods 3 class has been selling cheesecakes the day before Thanksgiving to the teachers and staff at Lanphier. However, cheesecakes were not what they began selling.
“We didn’t originally start with the cheesecakes, we started with sweet potato pie. We did sweet potato pie the first couple years,” said Ms. Paula Peterson.
They sell these pies to the students and staff, usually selling around 150. An individual pie costs $10, but depending on how many bought, the price varies. For example, to buy two, it is $18.
“We make them the week before Thanksgiving, we freeze them, and then they take them out, and they put the layer of whip cream, and they decorate them with a picture made out of cinnamon sugar,” said Ms. Peterson.
These pies were handed out by students Wednesday during 7th Hour.
Although this has been a tradition for many years, teachers continue to enjoy these pies.
“I bought one to support the program and serve it for Thanksgiving,” said Ms. Heidi Beck.
